Bureau Veritas (official awarding of the certificate)
At the Certificate Award Event held on Tuesday, 8 June 2010, in the Business Oasis GZS, the Director of Certification, Mr Borut Mlakar, awarded the first EN 15038 and ISO 9001 standard certificates to the Director of PSD. The former is the first standard specific to the translation sector, offering translation service providers and their clients a complete service definition. This standard is becoming more recognised as time passes and many public tenders for translation services now need to meet its requirements. The main purpose of the EN 15038 Standard is to establish and define the requirements that translation service providers are obliged to meet in order to provide a quality service.
According to the Director of PSD, “The decision to introduce these standards was made primarily because of the desire to organise the company’s operations, as well as its relationships with its external associates. In this way, the company’s work became much easier to analyse, and the quality requirements are now more accessible than ever.
We expect that through the use of both the ISO 9001:2008 and EN 15038:2007 standards, we will be able to improve our organisation, optimise our capacities and ensure a higher standard of work. We are aware that the introduction of the standards themselves will not bring about a solution immediately, but it is a way to guarantee that a solution will be found.
We have already done something with our colleagues about the disorder in the translation market in Slovenia: we established the Slovenian Association of Translation Companies. The next step was the introduction of the standard. We are happy that the Association adopted the EN 15038:2007 standard as the starting point for quality.”
The benefits of the business system compliant with the EN 15038 Standard:
the EN 15038 Standard stipulates the requirements that translation services providers must meet regarding human and technical resources, quality control systems, project management, relationships with clients, and the monitoring and surveying of the translation process.
The EN 15038 Standard is important to translation agencies for the following reasons:
Competence advantage, market differentiation.
Operational efficiency.
Increasing client confidence
Short-term benefits:
Refreshing effect of analysis and critical review of current organisation.
Sources of new ideas as the basis for further development and continuous quality improvement.
Evidence for associates and clients that the agency meets the requirements defined by experts from all over Europe.
